Working toward healthy communities in Honduras

SUMMER 2025 UPDATES:

We've ben networking with local agencies including the local police, the Ministerio Publico (similar to DHS), a women's organization in Ceiba called Ciudad Mujer, and even a human rights agency. 

We are getting youth together to talk about mental health and trauma, very important themes for youth in El Porvenir.

We gave a talk on sexual health to 6th graders at Escuela Juan Ramon Molina, the local public school in August.  The kids enjoyed a healthy snack as well and really enjoyed the peanut butter!  (Photos below) 

Our weekly zumba classes are continuing.

We are prepping four our Field Day event "Muevete" which will take place September 21st with collaboration from the local firefighers (bomberos).  

EARLIER IN 2025: 

Our most recent Knowledge is Power (KIP) Program finished Feb 1, 2025 with Keyla Padilla Oro and Reyna Obando serving as our lead and assistant teachers, respectively.  Twenty-five teens graduated from the program this year.  They learned about a variety of health topics from sexual health to mental health and everything in between.  They completed a successful community health fair on Jan 31, 2025 on the basketball court by the main soccer field in Barrio El Centro.
